Gouda, in the Province of South Holland, is home to the two most important historic buildings in this province.
One, the 15th-century city hall on the Markt, is a real gem. No less so is the Sint Janskerk (St. John’s Church): 123 metres long and lined with splendid stained glass windows. The beautiful former orphanage at Spieringstraat 1-3 was built in 1642 and has a scrollwork-ornamented fa?ade. The building is now in use as a public reading room, library and municipal archive.
